Florida homes need insulation that handles convection, radiant heat and conduction. Air sealing, radiant barrier and high-grade blown fiberglass work together to keep your home efficient.

It’s important to have the right kind of insulation installed in Florida. Here are three types of problems that need correction:

Convectional Heat: To stop most convectional heat you need to do what’s called “air sealing”. We use foam to fill the gaps that cause cold air in your home from getting into your attic. We also foam around your AC vents and any other penetrations or electrical areas that leak cold air.

Radiation or Radiant Heat: Radiant barrier is designed to be installed under the truss system and is 97% reflective. It blocks the heat from radiating into your home. Blown-in insulation and your AC ductwork is only rated for 75°F which means you are running your R-value at 20%. When we install radiant barrier your attic temperature drops from 165°F down to 85°F allowing your existing insulation and ducts to work efficiently.

Conductive Heat: We eliminate conduction of heat by installing blown-in insulation. There are two types of insulation today that are popular. Fiberglass and cellulose. Cellulose is a cheap insulation that will make your home dusty over time in Florida because our humidity levels will break it down. Fiberglass is the better choice overall but it has to be a higher grade of blown wool otherwise it’s just as dusty and gross as cellulose. We recommend high grade blown-wool fiberglass for most homes as it also helps with air sealing and moisture issues.
